History
AOGC has had numerous successes at National Level as well as on the International stage, representing Team USA.
In 2008, Mattie Larson made it to Nationals as a first year senior, aged 16. After advancing to the Olympic Trials, she made it to the Olympic Training Squad but after she sustained an injury, her Olympic dream was jeopardized. Also that year, Samantha Shapiro was on the U.S team for the 2008 Pacific Rim Championships in San Jose. She was the Bars Champion as well as winning a silver in the all-around and she also placed 8th in the floor and 6th on the beam.
In 2010, AOGC had a new member, Junior elite gymnast McKayla Maroney transferred from Gym-Max Gymnastics in Costa Mesa. McKayla competed at the U.S Nationals, placing 3rd in the all-around and winning the Vault. Mattie Larson won the floor at the U.S Nationals and was named to the U.S 2010 World Gymnastics Championships team. In the team final, she had a disastrous floor routine after she hadn't connected 2 skills, as well as not having a front element. Not only that, she also fell on her double pike.
In 2011, both Mattie and Samantha ended their Elite careers, going into Collegiate gymnastics, for UCLA and Stanford. Meanwhile, Maroney was named to the U.S Worlds Squad. She took the team gold and also won the World title on the Vault.
In 2012, McKayla was named to the U.S Olympic Squad. Injured in the leadup to the Olympics, Maroney competed only on her best event, vault. She competed a near-flawless vault during team finals and later won the silver medal on vault.
In 2013, Maroney took the U.S National titles on Floor and Vault and was later named to the 2013 Worlds Squad. She won a gold medal for vault.
In January of 2018, Larson was one of two former AOGC gymnasts to make statements about both sexual abuse by then-Team USA doctor Larry Nassar and the abusive practices of the AOGC coaches. Joining her in those statements was Maroney.
